UWM Filmmakers screen their stuff

The Milwaukee Film Festival 2011 takes over local theaters Sept. 22 to Oct. 2. More than a dozen UWM students and alumni will screen their films during the 10-day festival, and their submissions are as follows:

  • Are You There?“Are you Busy?”
    Friday, Sept. 23, 9:45 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 27, 7 p.m.
    Directed by Peck School of the Arts alumni Nick Sommer (BFA Film ’06) and Chris Thompson (BFA Film ‘06) and Milwaukee filmmaker Frankie Latina.
  • Valley Maker“Valley Maker”
    Tuesday, Sept. 27, 7:15 p.m.
    Directed by Peck School of the Arts alumnus and film lecturer Sean Kafer (BFA Film ’03, MFA Performing Arts ’10).”Valley Maker” is Kafer’s graduate thesis.
  • Passing the Baton“Passing the Baton”
    Wednesday, Sept. 28, 7:15 p.m.
    Directed by doc|UWM instructor Ryan Sarnowski. Produced by doc|UWM instructor Jenny Plevin (BFA Film ’98).
    Contributors include doc|UWM students and/or recent alumni: Chloe Arbiture (BFA Film ’09); Sean Bannier; Alex Block (BFA Film ’10); Jacob Feiring (BFA Film ’09); Dominitric Griffin (BFA Film ’10); Quinn Hester (BFA Film ’11); Gavin Jackson; Sebastian Juarez; William Olsen (BFA Film ’10); Joseph Steigerwald; Alex Youngen.
  • The Milwaukee Show“The Milwaukee Show,” a collection of short films about, you guessed it, Milwaukee.
    Thursday, Sept. 29, 7 p.m.

    • “Anima Mundi,” by PSOA lecturer Kate Balsley (BFA Film ’03)
    • “Documenting Westphal,” by Kurt Raether (BFA Film ’11)“Everyday,” by Blyth Meier (MFA Art ’04)
    • “Please Remember Me,” by Lisa Danker. “Please Remember Me” is Danker’s graduate thesis.
    • “Secrets of Animal Navigation” by Daniel Boville (BFA Film ’11).
    • “The Wheel” by BFA alumnus John Roberts
    • “Missed Connections”, by Susan Kerns of the Department of English, and alumna Kara Mulrooney (BFA InterArts ’05).
  • Points of Interest“Points of Interest”
    Friday, Sept. 30, 9:30
    Directed by Jon Salimes and Anthony Lopez (BFA Film ‘08)
