Panther Prowl 2011: A Chancellor’s challenge

Can you outrun Chancellor Michael Lovell? Lace up your sneakers and give it a go at the 7th annual Panther Prowl 5K run/walk Sunday, Oct. 9, 10 a.m.

Participants who beat Chancellor Lovell’s time will receive an “I Beat the Chancellor” shirt at the post-race party and awards ceremony. At last year’s Panther Prowl, Chancellor Lovell came in 44th place overall, with a time of 20:34 – a pace of 6:38 minutes per mile.

Any participant – runners, walkers, speed demons and baby strollers – can join “Team Lovell,” an honorary team celebrating his Oct. 14 inauguration. All Team Lovell members must pledge an additional $10 donation for student scholarships and alumni programming at registration time. Participants will receive a special commemorative race shirt in lieu of the standard 2011 shirt. (Participants can be a member of Team Lovell and another team at the same time. It’s an honorary team in celebration of the inauguration, and is not competitive).

The 5K course starts on Hartford Avenue between Merill and Garland halls, travels west on Hartford Avenue, south on Maryland Avenue, east on Kenwood Avenue and through Lake Park. The route ends back on campus at a post-race party in front of Garland Hall.

The Panther Prowl helps support the UWM Alumni Association programs and student scholarships. These scholarships help to enhance educational opportunities for young people who may not otherwise pursue a college education.
