Tweeting in English is easy for UWM juniors Ben Specht and Brian Thompson. Learning German is another story – one you can read for yourself this Monday when Specht and Thompson take to the Twittersphere as guest-tweeters for @UWPowersMe. They begin making regular contributions to the University of Wisconsin System (UWS) social media campaign on April 8. Specht and Thompson will be the first UWM students featured and the first to tell their story from overseas.
Specht and Thompson, juniors in UWM’s School of Information Studies, are spending the semester in Hagenberg, Austria. Both received scholarships to study at University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria.
When they’re not busy exploring Europe on weekends, you’ll find Specht and Thompson at the university assisting a professor with her English courses. Specht and Thompson in turn are taking a course in German to better communicate in their new university community.
“Even though we are not on UWM’s campus this semester, we look forward to being able to share our experience from Austria,” says Specht. “This is a great way to highlight study abroad with the UW System.”
The @UWPowersMe account allows students, faculty, staff and alumni to share their UWS story with a wider audience, for one week, on Twitter. This account is part of a larger UWS campaign, Knowledge Powers Wisconsin, which energizes and empowers students, faculty, staff and alumni to share their pride and perspective as members of the UWS.
