During UWM’s Year of the Arts (YOA), thousands of people have attended special YOA programming and signature performances, as well as regular Peck School of the Arts events – raising the profile of the Peck School during its 50th anniversary celebration.
Community members have another opportunity to experience the impact of the Peck School at the annual Kenilworth Open Studios event on Saturday, April 20, from 11a.m.-2 p.m. at Kenilworth Square East. Featuring five floors of art, dance, film, music and theatre, and three hours to explore, Open Studios offers something for everyone. (See a slideshow below.)
April 20 is an opportunity to see the work created by Peck School faculty, alumni and students. Kenilworth Open Studios also is a prime example of how YOA dovetails with the mission of UWM’s Best Place to Work initiative. YOA and the initiative are partnering because the many free and low-cost arts events open to employees are one of the many elements that make the university a best place to work.
During Open Studios, attendees are invited to peek behind the scenes into studios and practice rooms, and experience live performances by Peck School dancers, actors and musicians.
Art lovers can explore and view student and faculty art, stroll through Inova galleries and watch award-winning films. Always a crowd-pleaser are free, hands-on activities – including button-making and screen-printing – that let visitors become the artists themselves.
