Mac Miller, Matt & Kim headline PANTHERFEST

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is excited to announce PANTHERFEST 2013 headliners. Matt & Kim and Mac Miller will perform at the Marcus Amphitheater on the evening of Friday, Sept. 6.

The two artists were booked for UWM’s largest annual event by popular demand. More than 11,000 students – nearly 30 percent of UWM’s total student population – responded to the PANTHERFEST entertainment survey distributed in July.

“PANTHERFEST 2013 truly reflects the voice of UWM students,” Steve Heimerl, PANTHERFEST student co-chair, said. “We’re very happy that we were able to bring to the stage two of the students’ top choices from the survey and that students have been involved in the planning process from day one.”

New in 2013, the Panther Street Festival will kick off the official PANTHERFEST festivities. Food trucks, eurobungy, ziplining, yard games and a cash cube are just some of the attractions. The party begins at the iconic UWM fountain at 3 p.m. Sept. 6.

Following the Panther Street Festival, ticketholders can take a free shuttle from campus to the Summerfest grounds. Marcus Amphitheater gates will open by 7 p.m.

Local talent Pizzle will open for the PANTHERFEST headliners on the Amphitheater stage. First up will be Matt & Kim, an American pop duo formed in 2004 and known for their DIY musical sensibility. Mac Miller will follow. The Pittsburgh-based hip-hop artist has sold more than 4.5 million singles.

Every UWM student can receive one free PANTHERFEST ticket. Student tickets can be picked up in the UWM Union Concourse or at the “Ask Me” tents across campus starting Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Starting Wednesday, Sept. 4, faculty and staff can purchase up to two tickets, and UWM students can purchase up to two additional tickets, for $40 each at the UWM Student Union Information Center. UWM alumni can purchase up to two tickets from the Student Union Information Center for $25 each.

PANTHERFEST wraps up Fall Welcome 2013. Kicking off Tuesday, Aug. 27, Fall Welcome features dozens of events and activities designed to welcome students to the university and to Milwaukee, as well as introduce them to campus resources and organizations.
