In memoriam: Richard Schild

We were informed that Richard Schild passed away on 18 December.  He and his wife, Marj, have been living out in Sun City, AZ for sometime now.  He will be cremated and his ashes buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse, WI.  There will be a Memorial service (per his request) in May at his home church, St. John’s United Church of Christ, La Crosse, WI.  Exact date to be determined.

As a former colleague, I can say that Dick was a special kind of person.  He was always thoughtful and kind, supporting most especially his students 100%+!  He was one of the early leaders in the Milwaukee Area who helped to develop “Special Olympics” programs during the 1970’s, especially those for school-aged children with disabilities.  As an active member of the local chapter of Phi Epsilon Kappa (a Physical Education fraternity), he was able to get the membership to provide all support services for the area’s “Special Olympics” Track Meet, held every May.  His commitment to meeting the Physical Education needs of especially children with disabilities is well-known in the greater Milwaukee Area.  We will surely miss, but not forget Dick for all he accomplished during his professional career at UWM, within our Department of Kinesiology (whose predecessor departments were Physical Education, then Human Kinetics, on to Human Movement Sciences, and finally, as of 2013, Kinesiology).  I believe it fair to say, Dick would say he was a member of the “Physical Education Department” (then within the School of Education)!

Thanks for your attention.
