During Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week, UWM will be conducting a campus-wide tornado drill on Thursday, April 24th.
On-campus buildings (including: USRB, Hefter Center, Alumni House, Zelazo Center, and Great Lakes Research Facility) will hold the drill at 2 p.m. A S.A.F.E Alert text message will be sent at the start of the drill, and another text will be sent announcing the “All Clear”.
Off-campus building (including: WUWM, School of Continuing Education, Zilber, and East Lake Towers) drill times will be determined by the Building Chair. In a tornado event, the S.A.F.E. Alert system would be used to notify the campus, direct the campus community to seek shelter, and signal “All Clear” after the danger has passed. Please note, if Milwaukee County is under a tornado warning, a S.A.F.E Alert will not necessarily be issued until a tornado is deemed a threat to campus.
In order for the system to work to its full potential, we ask that you sign up to receive S.A.F.E Alert messages. If you are already signed up, please update any information that has changed at the link below. It is important to note these alerts will be sent in any life threatening emergency, not just for tornados. We all share the responsibility of being
aware, prepared, and safe.
