Got a brainstorm?
Year three of the UWM Student Startup Challenge (SSC) is now accepting applications. Go to http://uwmstartupchallenge.com.
The high-profile competition turns students’ winning ideas into companies. Starting with only an idea, UWM experts will help winners build a team, develop working prototypes and learn in a “business boot camp.” Ideas are judged on novelty, viability and appropriateness for prototyping/development.
In 2014, SSC will fund up to 10 innovations along different themes that we can support thorough various tracks, including:
• product development (hardware)
• software applications (mobile apps)
• water technologies
• energy-based research and design
• social entrepreneurship and sustainable communities
• consumer products
Online entries can be in any form: images, documents, presentations, videos or other media, but must include:
• Clear articulation of an idea.
• What problem does it solve?
• How will it work?
The SSC fosters an entrepreneurial culture at UWM and in the Milwaukee area though creativity and deadline-orientated projects that focus on the big picture, while working on the details. Entrepreneurship is not only creating business but growing. Students are given time and space to take risks, build their networks, and tell their stories. The SSC bridges the gap between the passion, and realization, of creative solutions to issues.
