For those who missed it, the Heartbleed Bug is a flaw in the open-source encryption technology used on the majority of Web servers that manage secure financial transactions and customer data. While there’s no evidence that UWM’s environment was exploited through Heartbleed, University Information Technology Services (UITS) and their distributed support partners dedicated many hours to assure University data remains safe by patching hundreds of servers and applying new encryption keys. Once patched, industry best practices and UITS information security specialists recommend changing account passwords and updating security questions.
