Tim Danielson named Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources

The Division of Finance and Administrative Affairs is pleased to announce that Tim Danielson has been selected to serve as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  Danielson will officially begin his appointment on August 4, 2014, and will visit campus in mid-July to prepare for his official start.

Danielson has been serving as the Director of Human Resources at UW-Oshkosh, the largest of the comprehensive institutions in the UW System, since 2009.  In that role, Danielson led the successful implementation of HRS (Human Resources System) at UW-Oshkosh and also helped to develop the University Personnel Systems that will become effective for all campuses in 2015.  He understands the extraordinary value all of our faculty and staff play in the mission of the university, and appreciates and respects the role of shared governance on campus. His cover letter and resume are posted online.

As the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources, Danielson will report to Vice Chancellor for the Division of Finance and Administrative Affairs Robin Van Harpen.  He will be responsible for leading the HR function at UWM and ensuring that the campus receives excellent HR services.  In that role, he will bring together the teams charged with implementing the recommendations that come from the HR Effectiveness Assessment currently underway with the assistance of Huron Consulting, as well as the development of a leadership training initiative within HR.

“I could not be more pleased that Tim will be joining us at UWM,” said Vice Chancellor Van Harpen.  “He is fully engaged to help us achieve the improvements we are seeking in our HR processes.  Also, given his knowledge and expertise of many of the systems impacting UWM, he will be able to jump in and be an effective agent for change right away.”

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources has overall responsibility for providing leadership, policy direction and line management oversight for all university human resource management functions, including classified recruitment and hiring, unclassified recruitment, employment analysis, employee benefits, labor relations, worker’s compensation, unemployment compensation, payroll and other human resources activities.  The Associate Vice Chancellor also serves as the primary university liaison on human resource matters to UWM Administration and governance groups and subcommittees, UW System Administration, the other campuses of the UW System and other agencies of the State of Wisconsin.

Vice Chancellor Van Harpen also expressed her great thanks to Elizabeth Forman for serving as the Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for HR this year and for facilitating the HR Effectiveness Assessment currently underway.  “I am thankful to Liz for serving this campus during the interim period.  Her work on the HR Effectiveness Assessment will have lasting impact on this campus.”  Van Harpen also expressed appreciation for the time and contributions of the search committee, chaired by Dean Brett Peters of the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
