WUWM has netted one of the broadcast industry’s most prestigious honors.
The Radio Television Digital News Association recognized the public radio station on June 24 with an Edward R. Murrow Award for outstanding journalism for its six-month-long series covering black male incarceration in Milwaukee.
“What is particularly exciting is that this was a project that was conceived, and contributed to, by every one of our journalists and supported by our digital, marketing, and administrative teams,” WUWM General Manager Dave Edwards said. “While it is a journalism award, everybody played a role.”
WUWM was the only radio station in Wisconsin to receive the award. The station is member- and listener-supported and operated by UWM’s College of Letters & Science. The station broadcasts locally produced news and music, as well as national and international programming from NPR, APM and BBC.
